"Reef"-er Madness

Project Overview

"1983… (A Merman I Should Turn to Be)" was recorded by the Jimi Hendrix Experience in 1968. In it, Hendrix sings about leaving the surface behind to live in the sea, and watch the "Neptune Champion Games." It's a trippy, melancholy journey. I tried to capture the song's essence in this gig poster.

"Katherina and me decide to take our last walk through the noise to the sea, not to die but to be reborn."

Illustrating a Seattle Icon

My favorite part of the design process is in-depth research. I was moved by Hendrix's life story and I gained a new appreciation for his music.

Screen printing was one of the most rewarding skills I learned at SCCA. I loved going to the Fine Arts building and printing for hours (I made a lot of mistakes!). This poster was intended to be the culmination of my screen printing work, before the pandemic closed everything. I still plan on printing this poster — with neon ink, of course.
